HÀ NỘI — Hà Nội police have detained and prosecuted five people involving in a wild animal trafficking ring from central Nghệ An Province to Hà Nội.
The suspects are Lê Hồng Vân, 41, from Điện Biên Province; Nguyễn Thành Công, 40, from Hà Tĩnh Province; Trần Văn Nghĩa, 29; Đậu Đức Lệ, 29; and Đậu Đức Khính, 38, from Nghệ An Province.
The police seized a live tiger, chamois bones, deer antlers and drugs used to make tiger bone glue.
Initial investigation revealed that early this month, Vân received an order from a customer for the purchase of one tiger to make tiger bone glue. The woman bought a 200kg live tiger from a person in Nghệ An Province for VNĐ5 million (US$224) per kg. She then hired Công to transport the tiger to Hà Nội and hired Nghĩa, Lệ and Khính to make the tiger bone glue.
The police caught the five suspects red-handed on Đống Đa District’s Trần Hữu Tước Street, carrying a live tiger, chamois bones, deer antlers and 5kg of drugs used as an ingredient in tiger bone glue. — VNS
