THỪA THIÊN–HUẾ – The central province of Thừa Thiên–Huế is accelerating a project to improve the water environment in the former imperial city of Huế, funded by the Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA).

The VNĐ4.2 trillion (US$188.3 million) project is divided into two phases, with the first to be implemented through to 2018 in ten wards in the south of the Hương River. Feasibility projects and detailed designs for the full development of the city’s water drainage system will be carried out in the second phase.

To date, two of the six bidding stages have been completed while other stages like the Hói River dredging and the construction of a 50km pipeline are underway.

In the main stages, seven pumping stations and a waste treatment plant with a capacity of 30,000 cubic metres per day and night will be constructed in An Đông District.

The project is expected to be completed in late September this year. — VNS
