HÀ NỘI — The Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Women’s Beach Volleyball Tournament is scheduled to start in the Mekong Delta province of Cần Thơ on April 20 and last until April 23.

The event’s organising board, the Việt Nam Volleyball Federation and the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, provided information on the tournament at a press briefing in Cần Thơ on Tuesday.

The tournament will attract the participation of 36 players from 18 teams of 10 countries and territories including Australia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore and Thailand.

Participants will fight for a total prize of US$12,000, of which the winner will walk away with a bonus of $2,600, while runners-up will receive $2,000 and $1,600.

According to Phạm Văn Luận, deputy director of Cần Thơ City’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the winners at the Cần Thơ event will be awarded points by the AVC.

Luận said the annual event held by Cần Thơ Province will give Vietnamese volleyball players a chance to hone their skills and gain more experience to prepare for upcoming international events. — VNS
