HÀ NỘI — Nguyễn Văn Phương of Việt Nam and his partner Michael Francis II Eala from the Philippines won the boys’ doubles title at the Eddie Herr tennis tournament in the United States yesterday (Hà Nội time).

The pair, which was seeded No 4, defeated Leighton Allen and Vikas Deo of the hosts 7-5, 6-7 (4), 11-9 in the U16 category’s final.

“I am surprised with their win because the tournament attracted many strong players. Phương and Eala met with powerful rivals before the final match. However, they deserved to take the title, as they played confidently and with determination,” coach Nguyễn Phi Anh Vũ said.

I hope the win will be a strong motivator for them, especially for Phương, in the future.”

Phương and his teammates Tuấn Minh (U12) and Trọng Tín (U14) will take part in the Orange Bowl Internatinonal Tennis Championship, which begins today in Florida.
