LUANG PRABANG — Organisers have been working hard to be ready for the Viettel Marathon Luang Prabang Unitel 2024 next month, in Laos.

The Luang Prabang is the first leg of the Viettel Marathon Series, which includes three races held across Indochina, in Laos, Cambodia, and Việt Nam in the upcoming months.

The series will begin on November 3 in Luang Prabang, followed by a race in Hà Nội on December 1 and conclude at Angkor Wat, Cambodia, on December 22.

The series is the first of its kind, an inter-country marathon, jointly held by three countries' athletic federations and Vietnamese broadcaster Vietcontent.

The organising board, led by Bùi Thu Hường, the Vietcontent deputy general director, has spent a week in the northern province undertaking promotional activities and preparing for the race.

The delegation worked with Governor of Luang Prabang Khamkhan Chanthavisouk on October 22, at the provincial Party Committee headquarters.

At the meeting, the delegation presented and reported on the preparations and progress, saying that they are hoping to receive strong support from local areas and residents.

Governor Chanthavisuk said he was happy that Luang Prabang had been chosen for the Viettel Marathon Series, the first location of the Indochina-connected event.

It is also the first time that Luang Prabang will host a race that includes a 42km category. Organisers believe that runners will rise to the challenge and it will be a great opportunity to promote the land and its people, push local tourism and increase its popularity among international friends.

Chanthavisuk said that the local government would be on hand to help the organising committee to complete its work and would assign Lao officials to join the committee to ensure everything worked smoothly. VNS
