Vietnamese track-and-field to run again continental rivals in Thailand, South Korea

Vietnamese track-and-field athletes will compete in the Thailand Open from June 13-17 and Asian Throwing Championships on June 14-18 in Mokpo, South Korea.

HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese track-and-field athletes will compete in two international competitions this weeks.

A group of 12 competitors are taking part in the Thailand Open from June 13-17.

Nguyễn Thanh Vy, Phạm Quỳnh Giang and Nguyễn Quốc Thịnh will vie for medals in the men's and women's high jump while Nguyễn Thị Lan Anh will participate in the women's heptathlon competition.

In the men's 100m and 200m events, national champion Ngần Ngọc Nghĩa will fight off against Thai talents Puripol Boonson and Soraoat Dabbang

Nghĩa won silver at the 31st and 32nd SEA Games' 200m. Boonson was winners of the 100m and 200m in the 31st Games and Dabbang topped podiums of these events in the 32nd edition.

Later, Nghĩa will join teammates Nguyễn Bá Kiên, Nguyễn Đình Vũ and Nguyễn Tiến Hùng in the men's 4x100m event.

In other events, Sầm Văn Đời will run in the men's 800m and 1,500m and Hoàng Thị Ánh Thục will test skills in the women's 400m.

At the same time another team will participate in the Asian Throwing Championships on June 14-18 in Mokpo, South Korea.

The annual tournament features all the best continental athletes such as Chinese Tian Zizhong (shot-put), Kazakhs Ivan Ivanov (shot-put), Chinese Taipei Cheng Chao Tsun and Huang Shih Feng (javelin throw) and Japanese Maki Saito and Nanaka Kori (discus throw).

Vietnamese representatives are national Phan Thanh Bình (shot-put and discus throw), Nguyễn Hoài Văn (javelin throw), Lê Thị Cẩm Dung (discus throw) and Đỗ Tấn (hammer throw).

Among them, Văn won gold in 2021 SEA Games and silver last year and Bình bagged Việt Nam's first ever SEA Games silver last May. VNS
