NHA TRANG — The Nha Trang Dolphins set a new record for most three-pointers in a game they won against the Danang Dragons on Wednesday (August 23) at Nha Trang University Gymnasium.
The Dolphins broke their own record for the most three-pointer in a match with 19 (the old record was 17).
The Dolphins' shooters, such as Sơn Minh Tâm, Huỳnh Vĩnh Quang and Madarious Gibbs, had great performances shooting from outside the three-point line to help the home team take the lead from the beginning.
Although William Trần of the Dragons scored many points, he could not help the visitors to equalize the score. The score was 34-20 after the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the hosts continued to rain down three-pointers into the Dragons' basket.
On the other side, the visitors' attacks depended too much on isolation plays, so the Dolphins' defence easily blocked most of them.
The lead increased to 63-47 before the break.
After the break, the Nha Trang Dolphins' shooters were getting closer to the VBA's three-point record, while Jairus Holder's performance helped the Dragons to shorten the lead.
In the seventh minute of the third quarter, thanks to two consecutive three-point shots from young player Kaillum Đỗ, the away team heated up the atmosphere by cutting the lead to six points.
However, after that, Sơn Minh Tâm had two three-point shots from the corner to increase the lead for the Dolphins to a score of 89-77 before the last quarter.
In the third minute of the final quarter, Huỳnh Vĩnh Quang helped the Dolphins break the record of three-pointers.
Responding to the opponent, Jairus Holder, William Trần and veteran player Triệu Hán Minh made six three-pointers themselves.
These shots helped the Dragons close the gap to a score of 103-102 .
In the last two minutes, Madarious Gibbs scored two points from the layup and had one assist to end the game.
In the end, despite scoring over 100 points, the Dragons had another defeat with a final score of 108-105.
Robert Sampson, with a good performance on both offence and defence, took the Player of the Game award with 26 points and 15 rebounds.
With the win, the Dolphins maintain third place with a record of 10 wins and six losses, while the Dragons are still looking for their first win of the season. The Dragons will have two more matches to bring victory to their fans. VNS
