QUẢNG NINH — Quảng Ninh secured first ever gold medal in ball room dancing at the National Sports Games (NSG) on December 10.
Duo Lưu Hoài Nam and Nguyễn Trọng Nhã Uyên's beautiful performance in Samba persuaded judges to place them on the top podium at the Núi Béo Coal Company's Gymnasium in Hạ Long City.
It was the first time Quảng Ninh competed in dance at the NSG.
On the first day of competitions, athletes competed in six finals.
Đồng Nai pair Nguyễn Đoàn Minh Trường and Đặng Thu Hương won the five-Latin dance event. Their teammates Ngọc An and Lê Tố Uyên topped the Chachacha and Rumba.
Nguyễn Việt Quang and Lê Phương Anh from Cao Bằng secured title in the Jive while Hoàng Đức Tuấn and Đỗ Phương Uyên of Bình Dương took the Pasodoble victory.

Organisers also held competitions for amateur dancers from clubs nationwide. They competed in various age groups in solo and group categories.
The Việt Nam Sports Administration presented Quảng Ninh trophy and certificate for their most successful work in developing dance in the community.
Two other teams who also received certificates were Đồng Nai and Thái Bình.

On December 11, athletes will dance in six finals of five-Standard dance, Waltz, Viennese Waltz, Tango, Quickstep and Slow Foxtrot.
Dance has attracted more than 100 athletes from 13 teams including powerhouses of Hà Nội, HCM City and Đà Nẵng.
As the hosts, Quảng Ninh have 65 dancers under coach Trần Mạnh Cường at the tournament.
With one gold, the team have completed their target set prior to the games. VNS
