HCM CITY — HCM City’s Traffic Safety Committee will set up an inspection team to ensure all transport operators have implemented traffic safety requirements and comply with traffic safety laws.
Being done on the orders of the Government, it is one of the urgent actions to be taken to ensure traffic order and safety in the city.
In the first quarter the team will complete the inspection of units owning vehicles that were involved in accidents last year.
The Department of Transport will co-ordinate with district people’s committees to ensure all bus stations, parking lots and transport operators with vehicles with nine seats or more and 10-tonne trucks to co-operate with the inspection team and traffic police.
Transport companies must get health checks done for all drivers on a regular basis.
Failure to do so will be penalised based on traffic safety regulations.
The city People’s Committee and inspectorate will also periodically check state management and inspection agencies to ensure they are doing their jobs properly.
The city administration has ordered the police, the Departments of Transport, and Health and district people’s committees to carry out regular patrols and throw the book at people violating traffic laws.
It has instructed the Traffic Safety Sub-committee, Department of Transport, police, and other relevant agencies to draw up a comprehensive plan for improving traffic safety this year.
In 2018-20 the city hopes to reduce the number of accidents, deaths and injuries by 5-10 per cent. — VNS
