Two more Vietnamese universities won places on a list of Asia’s top universities, bringing to seven the country’s number of universities on the list compiled by the London-based education consultancy Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).

HÀ NỘI — Two more Vietnamese universities won places on a list of Asia’s top universities, bringing to seven the country’s number of universities on the list compiled by the London-based education consultancy Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).

The 2019 list of 505 top universities in Asia was announced on Tuesday by the QS.

The seven Vietnamese universities include the Vietnam National University, Hà Nội ranking 124th, Vietnam National University, HCM City ranking the 144th, Hà Nội University of Science and Technology ranking in the group of 261st-270th, Tôn Đức Thắng University ranking in the group of 291st-300th, Cần Thơ University ranking in the group of 351st-400th and Huế University and Đà Nẵng University in the group of 451st-500th.

The Vietnam National University, Hà Nội ranked 124th together with South Korea’s Ulsan University.

Compared with the QS Asia 2018, two Vietnamese universities have made significant progress. Specifically, the Vietnam National University, Hà Nội maintained its position as Việt Nam’s best university and rose 15 spots compared with last year. The Hà Nội University of Science and Technology also rose by 30 levels.

However, the HCM City National University slipped two spots compared with last year. Cần Thơ University moved from the group of 301st-350th to the group of 351st-400th. Similarly, Huế University and Đà Nẵng University also fell behind.

Tôn Đức Thắng University appeared on the list for the first time and ranked in the group of 291st-300th.

To measure excellence among Asian universities, QS uses several key indicators to compare institutions, including academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty-student ratio, proportion of international students and research quality indicators. — VNS
