CẦN THƠ — As many as nine people were taken to Cần Thơ City General Hospital on Monday after they sustained burn injuries at a wedding party in Trường Long Commune, Phong Điền District.
Phan Văn Dư, 47, the victim with the least severe injuries, said that at about 9.30am on Monday, he and many other people were attending a wedding party. While eating baked shrimps, the cooker ran out of alcohol, so people asked the server to put more alcohol into it. The server thought the cooker was not on, so he poured the alcohol directly into the cooker, following which the flames spread to three surrounding tables.
Tần Ngọc Sơn, head of the Burn and Plastic Surgery Ward under Cần Thơ General Hospital, said of all the nine cases, one person was in serious condition and was moved to Chợ Rẫy Hospital in HCM City.
One non-serious case was, meanwhile, discharged from hospital, while the remaining seven were being treated at Cần Thơ Hospital for injuries on their faces, chests, backs and arms. Doctor Sơn said three persons might need special treatment and skin graft. — VNS
