BÌNH THUẬN – Women participating in a seminar yesterday in the central province of Bình Thuận said collaboration on gender issues was essential in building laws and policies.

The seminar, titled “Improving women’s capacity in State management and gender collaboration in law and policy making”, was a venue for women from 31 southern cities and provinces to discuss measures to improve women’s roles in many fields in society.

At the meeting, the participants focused on the need for collaboration on making laws and policies, as well as women’s participation in State management.

Representatives from localities discussed difficulties and hurdles during implementation of gender equality initiatives, and proposed activities to enhance the role of the Việt Nam Women Union (VWU).

The participants contributed opinions on human trafficking prevention for 2016-2020.

Nguyễn Thị Thanh Hòa, a member of the VWU’s Presidency, told the seminar that “gender collaboration was very important in making laws and policies”.

“The collaboration would help narrow the gap between the two sexes and lead to real gender equality, which would help both men and women equally benefit from society’s development achievements," she said.

However, there were shortcomings, including capability and qualifications of union members, especially at local levels.

The seminar aimed to improve roles of women in making laws and policies, as well as to enrich their knowledge and skills on State management.

The seminar was also a chance for women in the union in different localities to share their experiences, which helped protect women’s rights and develop their role in society and families.
