BÌNH ĐỊNH — Bình Định must tap into its enormous growth potential to reach its development goals, National Assembly Chairman Vương Đình Huệ said at the review meeting with local authorities on Monday.

By 2030, Bình Định aims to become one of the leading localities in the north-central and central coastal regions and a major maritime economic hub of the country, alongside tourism development achievements.

NA Chairman Huệ noted that Bình Định has witnessed notable progress in development with a gross regional domestic product (GRDP) growth rate of 7.16 per cent in 2023, which is higher than the plan and ranks first among the five provinces in the central key economic zone.

There is also a positive shift in the local economic structure with growing proportions of industries and services.

The local poverty rate is also reduced to 3.13 per cent thanks to the province’s efforts in sustainable poverty reduction, job creation and vocational training.

Praising the solidarity and determination of the local authorities, the NA Chairman noted that Bình Định has seen impressive growth but its starting point was lower than others, therefore a significant development gap persists between the province and other localities.

The Politburo has adopted a resolution on socio-economic development and national security in the north-central and central coastal regions by 2030 with a vision towards 2045, demonstrating the efforts of the Party and the State for growth in the area which includes Bình Định Province, he said.

Bình Định’s master plan also identifies its growth path as being a centre of processing, manufacturing, services, tourism and culture in the region’s south.

NA Chairman Huệ said: “With this growth vision, ministries and central departments must provide support to Bình Định to serve as a centre for the region.

“It is the responsibility of the province as well as of the regional coordination council and the central Government, ministries, sectors and the National Assembly to create favourable conditions in terms of policies, frameworks and resource allocation.”

The top legislator added that Bình Định must strive to complete its set goals and missions, reviewing specific plans, targets and performance indicators, and making necessary preparations for the Party Congress of the 2025-30 term at all levels.

Meanwhile, the province must also put in efforts for the comprehensive development of socio-cultural aspects, education, healthcare and social welfare, effectively implementing its social housing plans.

Noting that Bình Định has a rich culture and history, especially with the ancient Sa Huỳnh Culture and the Tây Sơn Revolution, NA Chairman Huệ said tourism development must be linked to culture.

Acknowledging the recommendations and proposals from Bình Định authorities, the top legislator requested that the province work closely with ministries and central departments, and focus on strengthening its local Party leadership for the next tenure. — VNS
