Fighter pilot dies in plane crash

HÀ NỘI — A fighter pilot was killed when his aircraft crashed in the northern province of Yên Bái on Tuesday.

31-year-old captain Trần Ngọc Duy was piloting a Su 22 aircraft, No. 5873 of the 921st airborne regiment, Division 371, Air Defense-Air Force Việt Nam.

The military plane crashed while attempting to land at around noon on Tuesday.

The aircraft took off at 12:09pm and crashed while it was trying to land at 12:27pm.

The pilot was ordered to eject but tried to save the aircraft, however, the plane crashed, killing the pilot.

The Ministry of Defence has directed the Air Defense-Air Force and other agencies to investigate the cause of the accident and coordinate with authorities to visit and support Duy's family. — VNS
