HÀ NỘI — Vice President Đặng Thị Ngọc Thịnh hosted a reception in Hà Nội yesterday for a delegation of the Sri Lanka-Việt Nam Solidarity Association led by Most Venerable Baddegama Samitha Thero, a member of the association’s executive board.
The host hailed the delegation’s visit as a contribution to reinforcing the traditional friendship between the two peoples.
She said both sides should facilitate all-level visits to deepen bilateral ties in the future, and expressed her belief that the Sri Lankan government and people will recover from the recent landslide that killed and injured hundreds of people.
Samitha Thero, who is also a member of the Lanka Sama Samaja Party’s Politburo and the Southern Provincial Council of Sri Lanka, congratulated the host on her new position, which he said reflected Việt Nam’s stance on enhancing women’s roles in national leadership.
He said he hoped that Viet Nam and Sri Lanka would further increase people-to-people exchanges and economic co-operation for the benefit of the two peoples, in addition to political, cultural and educational joint efforts. —VNS
