HÀ NỘI – The Communist Party USA always values its traditional bond with the Communist Party of Việt Nam and supports the Vietnamese Party and State’s policy to promote relations between the two nations, said visiting Chairman of the Party John Bachtell.

Bachtell made the statement during his meeting with Party General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng in Hà Nội yesterday, during which he vowed to help further promote the friendship and co-operation between the two Parties, States and people in the future.

He stressed that US Communists will continue working to address the consequences of war in Việt Nam, especially supporting Agent Orange victims.

Bachtell said he completely backs Việt Nam’s policy of safeguarding sovereignty and territorial integrity, and solving territorial disputes by peaceful measures in line with international law.

On the occasion, Bachtell congratulated Việt Nam on the success of its 12th National Party Congress, affirming that achievements made by the country over its 30-year Đổi Mới (renewal) period are a great spiritual encouragement for US Communists.

The Vietnamese Party chief briefed the guest on the results of the 12th National Party Congress, and asserted Việt Nam’s policy of giving priority to enhanced relations with traditional friends and political parties of countries worldwide, including the Communist Party USA.

He suggested the two sides work closely to seek specific co-operative possibilities in order to bolster ties between the two Parties.

On the same day, Bachtell held talks with Hoàng Bình Quân, a member of the Party Central Committee and head of its Commission for External Affairs, at which time they compared notes on regional and global issues and discussed measures to strengthen co-operation between the two Parties.

During their stay, the US delegates had working sessions with representatives from the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Information and Education and Theory Council; the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism; the Ministry of Labour, Invalid and Social Affairs; the Ministry of Health; the Việt Nam Union of Friendship Organisation, and the Việt Nam Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin (VAVA). – VNS
