HÀ NỘI — President Tô Lâm held a working session with the Supreme People’s Procuracy on Thursday, praising the prosecution body for its progress in addressing corruption and misconduct.

The Supreme People’s Procuracy has collaborated closely with other departments in handling serious and complex fraud and corruption cases under the direction of the Central Steering Committee for Anti-Corruption, he said.

The prosecution body has also taken various measures to recover embezzled assets, gaining the public’s support and trust in the Party and the State’s determination to counter corruption and misconduct.

Since 2021, the People’s Procuracy and the Military Procuracy have collaborated with relevant departments to carry out prosecution procedures and have achieved remarkable results.

The Prosecution General of the Supreme People’s Procuracy has directed the sector in crime prevention and control with a determination to eliminate injustice and increase the quality of criminal proceedings.

President Lâm said that in addition to these achievements, the prosecution sector also has shortcomings that need to be addressed in order to improve.

The fight against crime remains challenging and complex, especially in regard to fraud and corruption as well as transnational, high-tech and non-traditional security crimes.

The president ordered that the prosecution sector continue to follow and effectively implement the resolution of the 13th Party Congress as well as other official documents from the Party's Central Committee, notably Resolution No 27-NQ/TW on building and completing the socialist rule-of-law state of Việt Nam in the new era.

It is also imperative to follow the Party’s leadership in drafting national projects and resolutions, while strictly complying with the 2013 Constitution and judicial laws, he added.

Taking into account the reports presented at the meeting, President Lâm ordered the prosecution sector to coordinate with relevant departments to amend the Penal Code, Civil Procedure Code, Law on Administrative Procedures, Law on Execution of Criminal Judgments and Law on Execution of Civil Judgments and other documents.

These must be compatible with the Law on Organisation of People's Courts and the Law on Justice for Minors, which are expected to be passed by the National Assembly in the near future, he said.

The president added that the sector must better perform its prosecutorial responsibilities and judicial supervision and create stable, favourable conditions for national development.

They must also take action to uphold and protect the laws, human rights, citizens’ rights, the socialist state and its interests, as well as the legitimate rights and interests of organisations and individuals to ensure compliance with law according to the Constitution.

Noting that the prosecution sector’s responsibilities are not only to detect wrongdoings but also the reasons behind them, President Lâm stressed that in each case, they must identify management, policy or mechanism loopholes and provide proactive advice to the Party, National Assembly, Government and relevant state agencies to address these issues.

He also noted that in the future, the Supreme People’s Procuracy must also continue to effectively perform its advisory role in reviewing capital punishments and amnesty decisions.

Emphasising the role and contributions of the People’s Procuracy in national growth and development, President Lâm expressed his confidence that the sector will continue to see greater and more comprehensive progress in the future. — VNS
