HÀ NỘI — The ASEAN Cinema Week will take place in Hà Nội, Đà Nẵng and HCM City in June or July this year, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has announced.
The event will be held to celebrate Việt Nam's year holding the ASEAN Chairmanship, the ministry said in a decision issued on its website on Wednesday.
Outstanding cinema works will be presented during the week, featuring national cultural identity, characteristics and natural beauty, social life and people of ASEAN member countries to boost the connection of cultures of ASEAN countries.
Each ASEAN country selects one film and sends it to the event’s organising board for the week.
All the films will be translated into Vietnamese and submitted to the evaluation council. If a film is not suitable for screening, the organising board will propose changing it for another.
With the slogan 'ASEAN Cohesion and Proactive Adaptation', the ASEAN Film Week 2020 will contribute to the implementation of political goals, enhance the role and position of Việt Nam as ASEAN Chair in 2020 and affirm that the country will continue its goal of maintaining and contributing to peace, stability and development in the region and the world, the ministry said.
It is expected that the week will be held in June or July 2020, subject to change depending on the situation of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2020, Việt Nam has major responsibilities at regional and international levels, including the ASEAN Chairmanship.
Advancing ASEAN’s contribution to maintaining regional peace, security and stability has been identified as one of five key priorities for the country's ASEAN Chairmanship 2020.
As both the ASEAN Chair for 2020 and a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for 2020-2021, the country has opportunities to showcase its role in the region and the world. — VNS
