HCM CITY — A showcase featuring works under US$1,000 or less by 20 Vietnamese artists opens at Craig Thomas Gallery in HCM City today.
The event, One Grand Show, displays dozens of paintings in different media. Most of the works feature urban life and are in vivid colours of pink, red, blue and yellow.
Featured paintings include Trần Quốc Tuấn’s Góc Phố (City Corner), a mixed media on canvas, and Chờ Việc Làm (Waiting for Jobs), an oil painting by Nguyễn Hùng Sơn.
While Góc Phố portrays children playing together on the rooftop of a building, Chờ Việc Làm features poor migrant labourers who move to the city for a job.
Both tell different stories of people in modern life. Paintings will be on sale at US$1,000 or less each.
The gallery is located at 165 Calmette Street in District 1. The show runs through September 21. — VNS
