NGHỆ AN — A passenger bus was destroyed after it caught fire on Thursday afternoon when it was travelling across central Nghệ An Province.
Witnesses in the province’s Nghi Lộc District said the bus caught fire right after a tyre burst.
The bus driver made the five passengers on board exit immediately and helped them take out their luggage. Residents nearby assisted the bus crew in extinguishing the fire but their attempts failed, and only the steel frame of the bus remained at the scene.
The bus operated on the Hà Nội-Nghệ An route.
On Tuesday, a passenger bus travelling from HCM City to the north overturned after a tyre burst in neighboring Hà Tĩnh Province. The accident killed two and injured another 10 people.
There have been calls for tighter control and safety checks of passenger buses operating on National Highway 1A in following frequent accidents. — VNS
