HÀ NỘI – President Trần Đại Quang hosted a reception in Hà Nội yesterday for Cambodia’s Senior Minister and Minister of Cults and Religion, Him Chhem, during which he stressed the need for the two countries to boost religious cooperation in bilateral and multilateral frameworks.

President Quang spoke of the effective collaboration between the Vietnamese Government Committee for Religious Affairs and the Cambodian Ministry of Cults and Religion, saying that collaborative activities helped intensify the exchange of information about religion, religious policies and experience in State management of religion.

He asked the two agencies to continue creating favourable conditions for the Buddhist Sangha of Việt Nam and Cambodia, to speed up delegation exchanges and support each other in monk student training.

Senior Minister Him Chhem affirmed that the Cambodian government and people always bear in mind the support of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who helped Cambodia escape from the Khmer Rouge genocidal regime on January 7, 1979, so that it could revive and grow.

No hostile forces can distort that truth and disunite the time-honoured friendship between Cambodia and Việt Nam, he added. — VNS
