HCM CITY — Minh Hưng Group of Việt Nam signed a memorandum of understanding with the GFSI-MHE Manufacturing of Texas LLC to build and operate Southeast Asia’s first facility to manufacture plywood from recycled fibre glass.

Under the MOU, the GFSI-MHE Manufacturing of Texas LLC, a global leader in recycling spent and damaged fibreglass wind turbine blades into plywood and sheetrock substitute material, will provide the technology, operational experience and equipment for the process.

MH Group and Minh Hưng group will provide the investment and commercial expertise.

The plant will be built in Tiền Giang Province at a cost of US$50 million and begin operations in 2019.

Việt Nam has enhanced activities to protect the environment and natural resources, with the conversion of solid waste (including used composites and fibre glass) into industrial materials and energy being a very important aspect.

The country produces around 28.5 million tonnes of solid waste a year, and most of it is disposed of as expensive landfill, which also affects the environment, mainly due to lack of recycling technologies.

Established in 1995, Minh Hưng Group (among 500 largest Vietnamese private enterprises) was the first company in the country to supply clean bottled water in large-volume PET bottles to hospitals, schools and households. — VNS
