HÀ NỘI — Javies Sada Peret won the third stage of Returning to Điện Biên Phủ cycling tour yesterday.
Peret of VUS-HCM City beat Golakhour Mirsamad Pourseyed of Lộc Trời Group and his teammate Nguyễn Minh Việt of VUS-HCM City on the last kilometres to take the lead on the 160km stage from Sơn La to Điện Biên Phủ City.
Seventy cyclists from 12 local teams and two foreign teams from Japan and the Philippines had to conquer the mountain passes of Sơn La, Pha Đin and Tằng Quái.
Today, participants will compete on the last stage, cycling 20 laps around Điện Biên Phủ City.
The event, which is organised by Quân Đội Nhân Dân (People’s Army) newspaper, aims to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the Điện Biên Phủ Victory (May 7).
On the sidelines of the event, other activities such as arts programmes, fund-raising for social welfare beneficiaries, incense offering at war martyrs' cemeteries and a photo exhibition will also be held. — VNS
