Indonesia dominates in pencak silat at Schools Games

ĐÀ NẴNG — Indonesian pencak silat artists grabbed five gold medals in tanding (fighting) event, while swimmers took four golds and set up three new records at the ASEAN Schools Games (ASG) on June 6.

Muhammad Ramadhani Wiyarta took out gold in the boys’ 55kg-58.9kg weight class, while Ibnu Faqih Andi Abdillah won the boys’ 43kg-46.9kg class.

Shelena Cantika Ridwan and Rizka Maulida Achmalia bagged golds in the girls’ 51kg-54.9kg and 39kg-42.9kg, respectively.

Syufi Nafiza Kharin then triumphed in the girls’ 55kg-58.9kg division.

Thailand and Việt Nam dominated in athletics on the sixth competition at the ASG as athletes from the two countries won five out of seven gold medals of the day.

Indonesian swimmer Jason Donovan Yusuf set up two new records in the boys’ 50m backstroke (26.39 seconds and 50m freestyle (23.24 seconds), marking his third new record in swimming.

Vietnamese Nguyễn Quang Thuấn also marked his third new record at the Games after breaking the boys’ 1,500m freestyle (15min43.20sec).

Malaysia earned two gold medals in badminton in the girls’ single and mixed double.

Việt Nam has clinched 44 golds, 31 silvers and 17 bronzes to lead the medal table after six competition days.

Indonesia surpassed Thailand to follow in the second place after taking 21 gold, 22 silver and 20 bronze medals.

Thailand came third, bagging 17 gold, 17 silver and 23 bronze medals.
