HÀ TĨNH — Police in central Hà Tĩnh Province’s Hương Sơn District have decided to detain a car driver and commence legal proceedings over him for resisting officials on duty.

Lieutenant Colonel Hà Hải Long, head of the Investigation Police Department, said the district police had issued a 2-month detention order against Trần Trọng Phi, resident of Sơn Bằng commune in Hương Sơn district, for his violation.

The decision had been sent to the district People's Procuracy.

At 8.30pm on May 26, the Hương Sơn District’s traffic police pulled over a car driven by Phi for random inspection when patrolling National Highway 8A passing through Phố Châu Town.

However, the driver did not obey the order and fled the scene.

Lieutenant Nguyễn Hà Sơn, member of the Traffic Police in Hương Sơn District, was knocked over when he attempted to stop the driver, who did not slow down.

The officer clung on the vehicle's windscreen wipers to avoid being run over.

Phi did not stop the car but continued to travel for more than 3km before he was stopped by the police.

He was found with an alcohol blood level of 0.214mg per litre. — VNS
