BÌNH ĐỊNH — The chairman of central Bình Định Province’s People’s Committee has approved construction of some 670 houses for citizens in areas affected by the major floods that occurred last year.

The province will spend some VNĐ21 trillion (US$942 million) supporting two groups of households.

The first group consists of 574 households whose houses were completely destroyed by the floods that occurred at the end of last year. The second group consists of 94 households whose houses were heavily affected by the floods.

For the first group, households whose houses were completely destroyed by the floods and were therefore forced to relocate to new places will receive support of VNĐ100 million ($4,400) each.

Those whose houses were completely destroyed by the floods will be provided compensation of VNĐ50 million ($2,200) each and those whose houses were completely destroyed that are covered under social protection policies will receive VNĐ20 million each ($885).

For the second group, each household will be compensated with VNĐ15-20 million ($664-885), depending on their level of poverty.

Five major floods hit the province from October 30 to December 30 last year, killing and injuring 48 people, destroying 756 houses and 240km of roads and incurring a total loss of some VNĐ2 trillion ($98 million).

The flood-affected areas include Quy Nhơn City, An Nhơn Town and the districts of Tuy Phước, Phù Cát, Phù Mỹ and Hoài Nhơn, as well as Hoài Ân, Tây Sơn, Vĩnh Thạnh and An Lão. — VNS
