City to bury all cables by 2020

HCM CITY — All power and telecommunications cables in the city are expected to be buried underground by 2020, the HCM City Power Corporation has said.

The corporation, which began burying cables underground in 2009, has completed burial of power, information and telecommunications cables in six areas and 74 streets, including streets in the city and administration centres of District 4, District 6 and Thủ Đức District.        

The corporation is focusing on burying power grids in District 1, District 3 and on streets linking districts in order to complete the work in these areas early 2018.

After that, the corporation will bury cables in districts 4, 5, 6, 10,11, Phú Nhuận, Bình Thạnh, Tân Bình, Tân Phú and Gò Vấp.

Another 650km of medium-voltage cables, 1,150km of low-voltage cables and power cable systems on streets, especially in the city centre, will be buried by 2020.

Eighty-one cable-burial projects were completed between 2011 and the first quarter of this year.

An additional 16 ongoing projects will be completed by the end of the second quarter.

By the end of June, a total of 320km of medium-voltage cables and 530km of low-voltage cables will have been buried.

The corporation as well as telecommunications companies are implementing another 36 projects related to power, internet and telecommunications cables.

Upon the completion of these projects by the end of the third or fourth quarter, an additional 170km of medium-voltage cables and 280km of low-voltage cables will have been completed. —  VNS
