HẢI PHÒNG CITY – The Hải Phòng People's Council has recently approved a resolution to convert more than 42ha of rice land in three inner-city districts to implement the Ring Road 2 project.

The road has a total investment of more than VNĐ7.4 trillion (US$312 million) and will carry traffic for 11km across three districts of Hải An, Dương Kinh and Kiến An.

The project is divided into two sections, with a scale of eight lanes and includes a river bridge and an interchange overpass.

The project includes the following key components of a section from Provincial Road 353 – Hưng Đạo of 68m wide with an eight-lane road, the Hải Thành Bridge over the Lạch Tray River, about 1.2km long and 32m wide, consisting of eight lanes, the Bùi Viện intersection overpass, approximately 327.45m long and 25m wide, with six lanes and sections from Tân Vũ to Hải Thành Bridge and from Trần Hưng Đạo to Bùi Viện Road which will be 37m wide, with an eight-lane road.

The road section passing through Kiến An District will include components such as an interchange at Bùi Viện overpass and a 750m section of road with a width of 37m offering eight lanes.

The total area to be acquired for the project in this district is 17.79ha, including nine hectares of rice fields and over 2,000sq.m of residential land. The total cost for land clearance is estimated at VNĐ170 billion ($7.16million).

Additionally, the project will complete the remaining components of the Tân Vũ interchange, which had been previously constructed during phase one by the Ministry of Transport, to form a complete cloverleaf interchange with the Hà Nội – Hải Phòng Expressway.

The total length of the branches, including approach roads and bridges, is approximately 2.2km.

The project's objective is to complete the urban infrastructure framework of the city and connect up Hải An, Dương Kinh, and Kiến An districts.

Once completed, the project will lay the foundation for developing new urban areas, contributing to building a modern urban landscape, attracting investment and promoting economic and social development in areas along the road.

It will also help re-route container trucks away from the city centre to avoid traffic congestion, shorten travel distances and reduce travel time for vehicles from the Hải Phòng port cluster to other provinces. VNS
