A Ming Yang's wind turbine blade at Ia Le 1 Wind Power Plant in Chư Pưh District of Gia Lai Province has suddenly broken off.

GIA LAI — Nguyễn Minh Tứ, Vice Chairman of Chư Pưh People's Committee, confirmed on April 29 that a Ming Yang wind turbine's blade belonging to Ia Le 1 Wind Power Plant in Ia Le Commune has sustained damages and broken off.

According to an initial report from the investor, the turbine blade of WT04 tower collided with the tower body and caused one of the blades to break off at 7pm, April 29.

The specific cause of the accident will be further investigated.

Many local households farming in the area under the wind tower said they saw various pieces of debris from the broken blade thrown hundreds of metres from the tower, threatening their safety.

Some locals have picked up a piece of the debris.

Previously, in June 2023, local media reported that dozens of households had not received satisfactory compensation and support, but the developer Cao Nguyên 1 Wind Power Development Investment JSC of Ia Le 1 Wind Power Plant still conducted testing operations of the wind farm despite not receiving the authorisation to do so.

Gia Lai Province's Department of Industry and Trade officially sent a document to request the State utility group Việt Nam Electricity to intervene and direct the handling of the case.

The Ia Le 1 Wind Power Plant project has a total capacity of 100MW with 28 turbines located in Chư Pưh District, and has been operating to generate electricity.

The wind turbines for this wind farm were provided by Ming Yang, a supplier from Guangdong, China, with a total of 28 units (MySE 3.2MW and 4MW models). — VNS
