TIỀN GIANG PROVINCE — Phan Thị Bảo Trân, an 11th grader in Tiền Giang Province, on Friday (July 7) received VNĐ9 million (US$377.8) from the Việt Nam Coast Guard for paying her school fees as part of the agency’s regular charitable activities.

Senior Lieutenant Colonel Phan Nhân Hậu, secretary of the Party Committee of the Coast Guard’s Reconnaissance Unit No 2, said Trân lives with her mother and grandfather, and the latter is old and seriously ill.

The family’s financial situation could force her to quit school, he said.

Trân, of Gò Công Đông High School, is the fourth student to be supported since the Coast Guard launched the annual charity activity in 2020.

The support will continue until the students turn 18.

“It aims to encourage disadvantaged students to try and overcome difficulties and pursue their studies,” Hậu said.

It is also meant to consolidate the solidarity between the army and public, he added.

The Coast Guard has given gifts, including necessities, worth VNĐ1 million ($42) each to around 80 local students and households in difficult circumstances in the province this year. — VNS
