Cuban Embassy celebrates 60th anniversary of revolution

HÀ NỘI — Cuba is an example to developing countries, including Việt Nam, of how to maintain independence, sovereignty and national pride, Deputy Prime Minister Trịnh Đình Dũng said.

Attending a ceremony held by the Cuban Embassy in Hà Nội on Wednesday to mark the 60th anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution, Dũng said the Cuban Revolution has developed well and gained great achievements, despite changes in the regional and international situation and challenges caused by embargoes.

He took the occasion to thank the Cuban people for their wholehearted support for Việt Nam. The Vietnamese people are proud to have had Cuban comrades by their side during the past struggle for national liberation and current phase of national building, the official said.

He said the Vietnamese Party, State and people are all determined to continue developing the Việt Nam-Cuba traditional friendship and co-operation.

Cuban Ambassador to Việt Nam Lianys Torres Rivera highlighted the special solidarity between Cuba and Việt Nam. The two countries have intensified co-operation and shared experiences in health, agriculture, bio-technology, science and education, she stated, suggesting the two countries intensify bilateral trade and facilitate Vietnamese business investment in Cuba.

The success of the Cuban Revolution on January 1, 1959 put an end to the Batista dictatorial regime and 500 years of colonial rule in Cuba. It was one of the most influential political events in Latin America in the 20th century. — VNS
