HÀ NỘI — The 15th National Assembly (NA) on Thursday elected via secret ballots Nguyễn Thị Thanh as NA Vice Chairwoman and approved the Prime Minister's proposal to appoint Lê Thành Long as Deputy Prime Minister and Lương Tam Quang as Minister of Public Security, all for the 2021-2026 term.
The vote took place during the NA's on-going seventh plenary session.
Thanh received 465 'yes' votes from 467 deputies participating in the election. One deputy voted against and one did not vote.
NA Vice Chairwoman Thanh previously held the position of Head of the Mass Mobilisation Committee of the Ninh Bình Provincial Party Committee from 2007 to 2012, Secretary of the Ninh Bình Provincial Party Committee from 2013 to 2020, and Deputy Head of the Central Organisation Committee from 2020 to 2021 before being elected NA Vice Chairwoman.
Together with NA Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn, after the election of Nguyễn Thị Thanh, the NA now has four vice chairpersons, Nguyễn Khắc Định, Nguyễn Đức Hải, Trần Quang Phương and Nguyễn Thị Thanh.
The resolution approving the PM’s proposals on the appointment of Deputy PM Lê Thành Long and Minister of Public Security Lương Tam Quang received 468 'yes' votes from 469 deputies participating in the vote. One deputy voted "no".
Deputy PM Long served as Deputy Minister of Justice from 2011 to 2014, and 2015 to 2016 before becoming Minister of Justice in April 2016.
Minister Quang held the position of Chief of Staff and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Security in September 2017 and became Deputy Minister of Public Security in August 2019.
Now the Government consists of Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính and four deputy prime ministers, Lê Minh Khái, Trần Hồng Hà, Trần Lưu Quang and Lê Thành Long.
On the same day, the legislature also voted on a resolution approving the President's proposal on Minister Quang's joining the National Defence and Security Council.
All 455 deputies participating in the vote said 'yes' to the resolution. — VNS
