QUẢNG BÌNH Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính has urged Quảng Bình Province to accelerate construction of the component projects under the North-South Expressway’s eastern section.

Inspecting key transport projects in the province on Sunday, he said progress must be faster, but also needs to be of the highest technical specifications and calibre and that work is carried out safely.

The routes should be open by April 30, 2025, which falls on the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and the national reunification day.

He told the project team to hurry up and build intersections which are located 10km from each other, while urging local authorities to mobilise budgets to build out to those intersections to allow local travel.

The North-South Expressway’s eastern section, started in 2021, passing through Quảng Bình province, has three component projects covering 126.43 km, including the Vũng Áng-Bùng section (about 42.95km), the Bùng-Vạn Ninh section (49.93km) and the Vạn Ninh-Cam Lộ section (more than 33.5km).

The total number of householders who are impacted by the construction area is 3,227, of which 580 will need to be relocated to new homes.

As of the end of May 2024, Quảng Bình Province has handed over 121.4 out of 126.43km to investors and contractors, while land clearance work has not yet been completed on just over five kilometres of the planned expressway.

According to local authorities, about 40-50 per cent of the overall project is now complete. VNS
