HÀ NỘI — The first day of the 13th-tenure Party Central Committee’s ninth plenum concluded on Thursday afternoon, with several changes in the committee’s personnel announced.
Trương Thị Mai will be relieved of all duties as a Politburo member, secretary of the Party Central Committee (PCC), and Chairwoman of the PCC's Organisation Commission.
Mai is a senior official of the Party and the State, received fundamental training and matured from the grassroots level, and has been assigned to many important leadership positions in the government and the Party.
Throughout her tenures, she has demonstrated a high sense of responsibility, completed the tasks assigned and made significant contributions to management in the Party and the National Assembly.
However, according to reports by the Party’s Central Inspection Commission, she has committed violations of regulations on what a Party member shall not do, and the responsibilities of a role model as a government official and Party member, particularly as part of the Politburo, the Party’s secretariat and the PCC.
Her wrongdoings have had a negative impact on the Party and herself. Aware of her accountability towards her own actions, Mai has submitted a resignation letter to the PCC, which has been approved.
Comrade General Lương Cường, Politburo member, member of the Central Military Commission’s Standing Committee and chairman of the General Department of Politics of the People's Army is assigned to hold the position of the Permanent Member of the Secretariat.
Lê Minh Hưng, PCC secretary and chief of office will assume the role of the committee's Organisation Commission.
The PCC also cast a vote to elect four more members to the Politburo, which are Lê Minh Hưng, head of the PCC’s Commission for Communication and Education Nguyễn Trọng Nghĩa, head of the PCC’s Central Commission for Mass Mobilisation Bùi Thị Minh Hoài and President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Đỗ Văn Chiến.
During the three-day meeting, the PCC will also discuss the nominations for the positions of President and National Assembly Chairman for the 2021-26 term.
Several other Party members also issued disciplinary decisions for the wrongdoings.
Lê Thanh Hải, former Politburo member, former Secretary of the Party delegation to HCM City, former Secretary of the municipal Party Committee and former Chairman of the municipal People's Committee are relieved from all positions in the Party.
Dương Văn Thái, PCC member, secretary of the Bắc Giang Provincial Party Committee; and Mai Tiến Dũng, former PCC member, Minister and chairman of the Government Office were also expelled from the Party. — VNS
