HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese striker Nguyễn Công Phượng was named ‘Player of the Day’ by Fox Sports Asia following his outstanding performance at the AFC Asian Cup 2019 on Tuesday.

The website said although Việt Nam did not win, Phượng held up the ball and passed it well in the final third and contributed to Việt Nam’s second goal, which he scored.

Phượng was also willing to get into physical duels against the much bigger Iraqi players and his physicality forced mistakes in their defence. — VNS
