HÀ NỘI — The­ number of Fiber-To-The-Home (FTTH) has surpassed those with ADSL technology-based internet access after three years, according to the Việt Nam Telecommunications Authority (VNTA).

The authority reported that by late April this year, FTTH internet access is about 1.6 times faster than ADSL, which is accessible to 4.57 million users.

In the first four months this year, the country has more than 940,000 new Internet subscribers or an increase of 26 per cent against late 2015. The Internet coverage of FTTH per household has reached 37 per cent. Every three individual houses has a fixed wideband Internet household.

It is said that the number of FTTH users was 210,000 in 2013 and it was 4.5 million in April 2016, which is about 21 times faster after three years.

The US-based content delivery network service provider Akamai Technologies recently revealed in a report that Việt Nam’s Internet speed was ranked 12th in the Asian region.

According to the report on State of the Internet, Việt Nam’s average Internet connection speed in the first quarter of 2016 was 10 Mbps.

Broadband connection has helped content providers to provide Internet Protocol Television (IPTV), Video on demand (display) VoD and Video Conference and IP Camera. — VNS
