Winners of photo contest on primary healthcare in VN honoured

The winners of a photo contest on primary healthcare for Vietnamese people were honoured at an awards ceremony held in Hà Nội last week.

HÀ NỘI — The winners of a photo contest on primary healthcare for Vietnamese people were honoured at an awards ceremony held in Hà Nội last week.

Phạm Quốc Hưng from Đồng Nai Province won first prize for his photo that captures a boy drinking Vitamin A to combat malnutrition.

Hưng was a doctor at the Tân Phú Medical Station in Tân Phú District, Đồng Nai Province for 37 years. His photo captures part of his daily work at the medical station.

“I love children and this photo captured one of the children I met as a grassroots health worker at a communal health station,” said Hưng.

The second prizes went to Đặng Trần Thi’s photo that captured lunch time of ethnic and minority students at the Mù Căng Chải boarding school in Yên Bái Province and Phạm Hữu Thông’s photo capturing a girl was who was diagnosed with refractive errors in the school’s eye programme.

The organisers also awarded three third prizes and five consolation prizes.

At the ceremony, head of the organisers, Phạm Mạnh Hùng, editor-in-chief of VOV online newspaper, said that many of the entries had been taken by health workers working in primary care across the country.

“The contest contributes to raising public awareness of primary healthcare in Việt Nam,” said Hùng.

The contest was organised by VOV in collaboration with the Delegation of the European Union to Vietnam, the Ministry of Health, the Health Professionals Education and Training for Health System Reforms (HPET) and the World Bank, on the occasion of the 40-year anniversary of the Declaration of Alma-Ata on Primary Health Care.

The contest received 1,270 entries from 350 photographers nationwide. Entries focused on 10 primary healthcare fields, including: education; nutrition and food supply; clean water supply and environmental sanitation; maternal, child healthcare and family planning; vaccination against infectious diseases; epidemic prevention; treatment of diseases and injuries; supply of essential drugs; and health management and strengthening healthcare at grassroots levels. — VNS
