HCM CITY — More than 50 young people have attended the "Basic knowledge about the environment" training course provided under the "Youth for Environment" project carried out by the For Vietnamese Stature Foundation.

Training of youth is one of the main activities in the project for resolving environmental issues and contributing to promoting positive changes in government and corporate environmental policies for sustainable development.

Based on new learning models such as "Design Thinking" and "World Cafe", combined with games, the youths learnt the basic concept of "sustainable development" over eight hours and how to design initiatives to address environmental problems.

The trainees expressed their concern about environmental issues and keenness to resolve them.

After understanding the history and impacts of sustainable development and sustainable development trends, the young people were divided into six groups based on local environmental issues: climate change, air pollution, water pollution, waste management, waste classification, and eco-system imbalance in specialized farming areas.

Some important topics were discussed, and exciting initiatives were proposed and designed by the youths themselves.

“The training helped me gain a lot of knowledge about the environment and skills. In particular, I feel inspired to act for the environment,” Bùi Minh Thắng, a student of Foreign Trade University, said.

The next two training sessions, on "News/article writing skills" and "Creating an environmental communication plan", will be in July.

“Youth for Environment" is one of 13 initiatives to receive funding from the Asia - Pacific Media Grants 2020 Project of Earth Journalism Network.

Bắc Á Commercial Joint Stock Bank has also provided sponsorship and assistance for some practical environmental activities. — VNS
