HCM CITY— Customs agents at HCM City’s Tân Sơn Nhất International Airport and the Anti-Smuggling Investigation Department on Monday arrested a 35-year-old Korean man for illegally importing more than 400 mobile phones.

After noticing that a male passenger traveling on VN405 flight from Seoul to HCM City had not declared his luggage, customs agents checked his personal luggage and found 418 used mobile devices, including Iphones, and Samsung and LG brands.

The total value was estimated at nearly VNĐ3 billion (US$128,400).

According to government regulations, used phones including refurbished phones are banned from import into Việt Nam. Violators will be administratively sanctioned or subject to criminal prosecution. Illegal imports are also confiscated by authorities. — VNS
