HCM CITY — Over 200 older parents accompanied by their adult children received free and comprehensive health checks at Chợ Rẫy Hospital on Saturday, part of the Parent’s Companion event held by Abbott in collaboration with the Việt Nam Medical Association on the occasion of Mother’s-Father’s Day.

The criteria to be selected for this health check event is that each adult children had made a strong commitment and set up a tangible plan to help their parents achieve their dreams.

At the event, families received health diagnostics, nutrition guides and consultations from healthcare professionals on how to build an appropriate diet and lifestyle to enhance the strength of elders above age 50.

A recent survey sponsored by Abbott found that many elderly Vietnamese have unmet dreams, and find a lack of physical strength to be a major obstacle in realising their dreams. The good news is that 97 per cent of children polled are willing to help their parents pursue their dreams.

At the event, Ana María Canaval Landázuri from Peru, a 65 year-old champion swimmer, and Đặng Thanh Hải, a 65 year-old man who has fulfilled his dream of doing a trans-Việt Nam journey by bicycle, shared their stories on how they achieved their dreams later in life to inspire Vietnamese elders to believe in the power of dreams. — VNS
