HÀ TĨNH — A 230kg bomb was salvaged from the Hói Trẻn riverbed in Thạch Sơn Commune during construction of a sewage and canal system.
The bomb is 1.4m in length, 0.28m in diameter and weighs some 230kg.
Apprised of the information, Thạch Hà Military Command and local authorities are coordinating with the 319 Corporation (under the Ministry of Defence) to salvage the bomb.
Coded MK82, the general-purpose bomb was reportedly made in 1972 and dropped in the area when the US Army escalated bombing of northern Việt Nam.
According to the Military Command of Thạch Hà District, there likely remains a large quantity of unexploded ordnance in the area. — VNS
