HCM CITY — Seven major hospitals in the central area of HCM City will provide support for Thủ Đức Regional General Hospital until 2030 in an effort to develop it into a first-grade general hospital, according to the city’s Department of Health.

On April 11, seven hospitals signed an agreement to provide professional support for Thủ Đức Regional General Hospital for the 2025-30 period.

The move is aimed at developing Thủ Đức Regional General Hospital into a complete first-grade general hospital, with a focus on specialties such as trauma emergency and vascular intervention.

It will help Thủ Đức Regional General Hospital become one of the leading hospitals in the specialised health cluster of the Thủ Đức area, easing the burden on central hospitals.

It will also contribute to improving the quality of healthcare for people in the city, the northeastern gateway and neighbouring provinces.

The city’s healthcare sector development strategy outlines that the Thủ Đức specialised health cluster will include Thủ Đức Regional General Hospital, the second branch of the Oncology Hospital, Thủ Đức City Hospital, Lê Văn Thịnh Hospital, Lê Văn Việt Hospital, Eastern Military-Civilian Hospital, Hoàn Mỹ Thủ Đức General Hospital, American International Hospital, and some new general hospitals that will be developed in the years to come.

The 1,000-bed Thủ Đức Regional General Hospital, with an investment cost of VNĐ1.91 trillion (US$74 million), is set to be inaugurated this month to mark the 50th National Reunification Day.

With newly-built infrastructure, modern equipment, and support from seven major hospitals, Thủ Đức Regional General Hospital is expected to provide healthcare services for locals in the area and in neighbouring provinces such as Bình Dương, Đồng Nai and Bà Rịa-Vũng Tàu.

Stroke centre at the northwest gateway

On April 4, the newly-built Hóc Môn Regional General Hospital in the northwest gateway signed a comprehensive professional cooperation agreement with four major hospitals in the city - 115 People’s Hospital, Từ Dũ Hospital, Children’s Hospital 1, and HCM City Odonto-Stomatology Hospital.

This comprehensive support from the four hospitals will help Hóc Môn Regional General Hospital to improve professional capacity and establish a specialised stroke centre at the hospital.

Doctors from the hospitals will directly examine and treat patients at Hóc Môn Regional General Hospital during the initial phase.

They will assist the hospital in developing treatment protocols and technical procedures, and organise training courses to enhance the professional skills of the medical staff at Hóc Môn Regional General Hospital.

In addition, the hospitals agreed to establish coordination regulations for consultations, emergency transportation, remote medical consultations, and treatment, ensuring that all tasks are implemented smoothly and effectively.

Doctors from 115 People’s Hospital will be responsible for providing comprehensive support in stroke treatment as well as establishing a stroke centre at Hóc Môn Regional General Hospital.

This centre will provide emergency care for stroke patients as quickly as possible and provide specialised treatment for strokes.

Doctors at Hóc Môn Regional General Hospital will be directly trained by doctors from 115 People’s Hospital.

Dr. Đặng Quốc Quân, director of Hóc Môn Regional General Hospital, said that before the new facility was built, the hospital received about 1,200 patients a day.

The new hospital with its modern examination facilities provides examination and treatment for more than 1,800 patients a day, he said. —VNS
