Foreigner prosecuted for causing fatal accident

QUẢNG NAM — Police of the central province Quảng Nam have started criminal proceedings and arrested a foreigner after a motorbike he was driving crashed, killing his friend.

The detainee is Chong Fu Kit, 31, who is under investigation over violating road traffic regulations and came to visit Việt Nam with three friends.

The group checked into a hotel in Điện Bàn Town of Quảng Nam Province and while traveling, Chong rented a motorbike in Đà Nẵng City to get around.

At about 10:48 pm on May 8, Chong drove the motorbike with one of his friends, Cruz Wing Sze, a 28-year-old Chinese national, on the back. They were travelling from the hotel towards the ancient town Hội An, neither was wearing a helmet.

During the journey, Chong lost control of the bike, crashing into a fixed barrier in the middle of the road. Cruz Wing Sze died at the scene and Chong was injured.

The police quickly arrived at the accident and checked Chong's blood alcohol level which was found to be 220mg/dl. Chong was transferred to a hospital for treatment and was arrested following his discharge. — VNS
