HÀ NỘI — Party General Secretary and President Tô Lâm yesterday hosted a reception for former Việt Nam’s leaders on the occasion of the August Revolution and the National Day (September 2), expressing appreciation towards their contributions to the country’s growth.

Việt Nam’s achievements are the result of great efforts by its Party, political system, people and particularly the intellectual and responsible contributions of its former leaders, he said.

The meeting was attended by former Party General Secretary Nông Đức Mạnh, former State President Nguyễn Minh Triết, former Prime Minister Nguyễn Tấn Dũng, former National Assembly chairs Nguyễn Văn An, Nguyễn Sinh Hùng and Nguyễn Thị Kim Ngân, alongside other current high-level officials.

The passing of the Party General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng was a great loss for the Party and the country, Lâm said, adding that the solemn state funeral for the late Party leader represented the profound grief of the entire nation.

Facing the continuous and urgent development missions of the country and the Party, particularly those outlined in the resolution of the 13th National Party Congress, the Politburo and the Party Central Committee have consolidated the country’s leadership positions.

Personnel management is carried out with careful consideration and law compliance, which stabilises the apparatus and the leadership of the Party, aligning with the actual requirements, the nation’s unity and the people’s trust in the Party.

The Politburo and the Party Secretariat are ramping up efforts and leadership to create breakthroughs and achieve the goals and targets set out by the 13th National Party Congress, Lâm added.

Priority will be given to removing institutional bottlenecks while upholding the laws for the country’s growth, and improving people’s lives as well as local and foreign business operations.

Efforts will also focus on social welfare policies, improving living standards and anti-corruption, contributing to building a strong Party and sustainable economic development, Lâm said.

The leader also underlined that for the accomplishment of the 13th National Party Congress’ resolution and preparations for the 14th National Party Congress in early 2026 to enter a new era of growth, the efforts of the entire country and Party is crucial to increase unity, seize opportunities and use every resource available.

The former leaders of the state, the Party and the Việt Nam Fatherland Front, who were heading central and local departments, while retired from their duties, remain deeply committed and responsible, serving as a strong foundation for the current Party and state leadership, he added.

Party chief and President Tô Lâm said that their contributions and legacy will be remembered and carried forward and he hoped for their continuing feedback and assistance in the future.

He expressed his belief that with dedication and rich experiences, the former leaders will continue to make contributions in the best of their capacity for the country’s development and distinguished revolutionary cause. — VNS
