HCM CITY — HCM City conducted 74 inspections into possible corruption last year and transferred five cases to the investigating agency, according to a report of the municipal People's Committee sent to the Government Inspectorate to self-assess anti-corruption work.

The cases happened at the District 1 Sports Centre, the HCM City Employment Service Centre, the Hướng Công Viên Apartment Development Company and the Sài Gòn Zoo and Botanical Garden Co Ltd.

HCM City Police also investigated 27 corruption cases after receiving denunciation, crime reporting and proposals asking for further checks. The HCM City People's Procuracy prosecuted 37 cases related to the issues.

A total of 53 people were put forward by the Investigation Agency to be prosecuted for corruption and the HCM City People's Procuracy prosecuted 47 defendants.

Regarding disciplinary work against organisations and individuals, the HCM City Department of Health disciplined nine medical leaders at the HCM City Eye Hospital, the Bình Tân District Hospital and the Thủ Đức City Hospital.

The HCM City Police disciplined ten officers and soldiers for corruption.

The municipal Police stripped the title of People's Public Security from six people from the police of districts 5, 6, Bình Tân, Bình Chánh, Hóc Môn and Thủ Đức City for embezzling property and accepting bribes or for abusing position and power to appropriate property.

The Gò Vấp District Police Investigation Agency conducted an investigation into a case related to State management of urban order, construction and repair of assets at the Ward 13 People's Committee.

According to the HCM City People's Committee, corruption prevention and combating abuse in the city is always implemented synchronously and promptly.

Authorities at all levels have implemented programmes and plans on preventing and combating corruption and waste appropriate to the situation of localities.

Focus is put on industries and fields, where corruption can easily happen, to strengthen inspection.

The authorities at all levels also regularly educate Party members and workers on the Party's regulations, State’s laws ​on preventing and combating corruption to maintain political stability, economic, cultural and social development in the city. — VNS
