HÀ NỘI — A special dinner will be held tomorrow night at the 117-year-old Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi Hotel as part of the ongoing Metropole Culinary Stars event, which features 13 talented chefs including four with Michelin stars.

At “Stars, Food & Art,” nine of the chefs will combine art with gastronomy for a night of memorable culinary experiences.

Michelin-starred chefs are gastronomic artists. The art world seeks ever-deeper intimacy between people are art, and food is a useful point of entry. Connoisseurs will learn about their passion and their souls through culinary masterpieces.

Guests will have a chance to interact with a live performance by the Hà Nội–based artist Phạm Hà Hải. His on-site artwork will then be auctioned to raise funds for the Blue Dragon – a foundation dedicated to helping children in Việt Nam.

Born in 1974, Hải graduated from the College of Fine Arts in 1997 before gaining his master’s degree in Painting in 2005.

When the artist was a student, he won the second prize at the Exhibition of Art Students in 1997. He also was granted the Honourary Prize at the Philip Morris ASEAN Art Awards in 1998 and 1999. In 2015, he received the Bronze Medal at the Việt Nam Fine Arts Exhibition.

The artist expresses his creativity through painting, graphic design, performance art and installations. Hải has joined several group exhibitions in Việt Nam and abroad. His 1998 solo exhibition Đất và Con Người (Land and People) received critical acclaim.

In February, Hải won a stamp designing competition for the Lunar Year of the Dog. Inspired by the simple strokes and bright colours of Việt Nam’s Đông Hồ folk paintings, his paintings featured two dogs cuddling their puppy. The designs were used to print stamps that have been distributed across the country.

The nine-course “Stars, Food & Art” dinner will take place at Le Beaulieu in the Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi. For more information about the event, call (+84) 24 386919, ext 8200. — VNS
