HCM City – Dutch global paints and coatings company AkzoNobel has donated more than 3,500 volunteer hours with its employees repairing and repainting schools ahead of the new academic year that began recently.

The charity activity is a part of the “AkzoNobel accompanies you to school” programme the company has been implementing since 2017 to renovate and paint 100 schools.

In the two years it has so far done 30 schools using more than 60,000 litres of exterior and interior paints.

“Our school is in a remote area and severely degraded, but lacked the funds to renovate it,” Vũ Thị Hoài, principal of An Đức Elementary School in Quỳnh Phụ District in the northern province of Thái Bình, said.

“We deeply appreciate AkzoNobel Việt Nam’s praiseworthy contribution to our school, which will help students study in a larger and more inspiring space in 2018-19.”

On the occasion, the company also announced that for a ninth year it would provide scholarships to outstanding students at architecture universities.

This year 11 scholarships, 10 to students and one for an outstanding project, will be awarded.

From 2018 onwards talented students at the Hà Nội University of Architecture and Đà Nẵng University of Architecture will also benefit from the project. -- VNS
