HÀ NỘI — Artworks made from 1,000 discarded peach branches will be displayed in an open-air permanent exhibition at Vicas Art Studio, 32, Hào Nam Street, tomorrow.
The branches were used to decorate houses during the Vietnamese Lunar New Year.
Rubbish of the Spring 2018 exhibition features installation artworks by four artists, portraying four different stories.
The Whale, by Phạm Thị Hồng Sâm, highlights the uncontrolled whale massacres; Seed and Sprout by Hà Huy Mười tells the story about life, movement and development; Missing the Woods by Lê Đức Hùng raises alarm about the widespread deforestation that is destroying the ecosystem; and The Society by Yến Năng conveys the message of living with a positive outlook.
All the artworks, however, have a common message: waste, through art, can be turned into something beautiful and useful.
By using discarded peach branches as the main material for their works, the artists aim to remind communities of a more positive interaction with their ecological and social environment.
Entry to the exhibition is free. — VNS
