ĐÀ NẴNG — The first comedy dance contest in the country has been launched in the central city of Đà Nẵng.

The event is hosted by the Việt Nam Dancers’ Association and Đà Nẵng’s Culture and Sports Departments.

Themed “Message of Life”, the contest will have 39 dance plays enacted by 40 artistes from across the country.

The performances are expected to tickle the audience’s funny bone by mocking evil, praising the good and admiring beauty while spreading relevant messages.

Each play can last between five to eight minutes and can be acted upon by a maximum of five dancers.

The dancers can perform in different genres, including folk, European classic, modern, hip hop and dance sport.

“The humorous feature in dancing is different from other humorous art forms like comedy plays or films,” said Ứng Duy Thịnh, vice chairman of the association. “Comedy dance does not make the audience laugh at once. It aims to bring joy and smile to people though body language. The laughter in a dance play is much more profound. We aim to introduce a genre of comedy with real value among many available humorous forms of art with no deep meaning,” Thịnh said.

The contest will take place at Trưng Vương Theatre, Đà Nẵng, on April 28-29. — VNS
