As access to generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) continues to expand, experts predict a wave of innovations across different domains in the coming years.

From crafting emails to developing software and even aiding in early cancer detection, Gen AI is poised to revolutionise diverse aspects of daily life, they said.

This capability to produce highly realistic and intricate content akin to human creativity has positioned Gen AI as a valuable asset in areas like gaming, entertainment and product design.

The evolution of tools and systems that enhance human capabilities throughout history, be it the printing press or the assembly line, has consistently driven progress and facilitated higher productivity levels.

With cloud technology, machine learning and Gen AI becoming increasingly accessible, experts envision a future brimming with innovations designed to simplify cloud and technology adoption for all and to keep pace with the frenetic cadence of modern life.

During a recent information-sharing event, Amazon Web Services (AWS) shed light on four predictions anticipated in the upcoming year.

Dr. Werner Vogels, CTO at Amazon, foresees AI-powered coding assistants as a transformative force that will reshape developers' coding approaches.

These assistants are set to enhance developers' capabilities, allowing them to concentrate on the more creative and intricate facets of programming tasks.

By automating routine coding activities, AI coding assistants free up developers' time, empowering them to tackle more profound challenges and innovate more effectively.

Furthermore, AWS predicts a surge in femtech – technology tailored for women's health.

The flourishing femtech landscape, driven by a surge in data availability, increased investment and innovative products and services, is poised to transform and elevate women's healthcare experiences.

“Particularly with the cultural shift we're seeing an abundance of data across, increased investment and development of products and services to address women's health has continued to surge,” Eric Yeo, country manager of AWS Vietnam, said.

From subscription services to home-delivered birth control pills, a wide array of cutting-edge products is reshaping and enhancing women's lives globally, he said.

“This is already happening in Japan. Disposable menstrual cups are some of the cutting edge femtech products that are helping make lives more comfortable for women. The rise of femtech will not only benefit women, but it will shift and lift through the entire healthcare system.”

At the same time AWS envisions a revamp in higher education to align with the rapid technological advancements. The transformation of educational paradigms, akin to what has been observed in software development, is essential to inculcate specialised skill sets in employees.

Yeo said: “As we have seen in software development, higher education will undergo the same changes.

“In the past just having a college degree was good enough and you probably got the best job. But this is breaking down. More and more industries are looking for specialisations from their employees.

“The gap is actually widening, and the school system is not good enough to support the new future.”

AWS also anticipates that Gen AI will become culturally aware, recognising that cultural nuances profoundly impact user experiences.

“Today if you look at most of the large language models, 46 per cent of them are in English and very culturally western skewed towards the United States.

“For large language models to reach a worldwide audience, they need to achieve the type of cultural influences that comes instinctively to humans.

“It is important to know that language and culture are not the same. Even being able to do perfect translation does not give a model cultural awareness. As cultural fluency continues to be built into large language models or LLM, these will make generative AI more accessible to users worldwide.

“We believe that in the future all the large language models will be suited by each different country versus just using one large language model that is fully developed in the US,” Yeo said.

The Vietnamese market exemplifies this trend with startups like Arcanic AI developing language models optimised for Vietnamese users.

By integrating Việt Nam's social data and understanding the country's culture, customs, and traditions as well as fine-tuning the results on Amazon SageMaker, these models are culturally aware and facilitate tailored responses suitable for users.

Laura Nguyễn, co-founder of Arcanic AI, said: "We aim to personalise language models to suit each country's unique needs, ensuring that data is not just responded to with information but also understands and reflects the distinctive cultural fabric of that nation.

“Gen AI is not just a technological advancement; it is a pivotal force shaping the future workforce. As individuals learn to harness its capabilities, productivity will soar. With tailored training and innovative tools, we'll maximise its potential while ensuring it aligns with local and cultural norms.” she added.

With a growing emphasis on culturally sensitive AI applications, the global landscape is primed for an era of innovation grounded in diversity and inclusivity.

AWS established its first office in HCM City in 2017 before opening another in Hanoi in 2019. In 2022 it announced plans to launch a new AWS Local Zone in Hà Nội, launched the first two Edge Locations in Hà Nội and HCM City and in October that year launched the AWS Global Accelerator to support edge location traffic in HCM City, improving the availability, security and performance of internet-facing applications by up to 60 per cent. - AWS
